How to Outline a Response Essay on the Rite of Passage This is the third and final guide in the series. If you havenââ¬â¢t had a look at our first guide on 10 facts on the rite of passage and the second one on 20 topics on the rite of passage, we highly recommend you read through those first.à Reading our complete series in the correct order will substantially assist you in writing a brilliant response essay. Without further ado, here is how to write a response essay on your chosen subject: Writing a book or essay requires professionalism and certain degree of formality in the writing. However, in a response essay, things are a little different. In this essay, what you actually do is review a book or article and discuss your personal perspective on it. It might sound a bit strange at first, but in a response essay you can use phrases like ââ¬Å"I believeâ⬠, even though it is a formal assessment. Response essays are all about the work you are observing, whether itââ¬â¢s a film, book, or artwork of some sort. One essential ingredient to add to this type of essay is your own personal opinion and impressions. Here is what you have to do first before writing a response essay: Visualize the assignment and make an initial comprehension about it Go through it again and contemplate Note down any kind of thoughts or conceptions about your assignment which run through your mind as it will help in writing the essay Form a thesis accordingly Write an outline of your essay and construct it appropriately In the first paragraph, it is necessary to include the title of the object you are responding to and the name of the author and creator who made that object. For example: ââ¬Å"Batmanà The Dark Knight Rises by Christopher Nolanâ⬠. Between the first and last sentence, you summarize what you have reviewed on the topic. In the last sentence of your first paragraph, it is compulsory to add a thesis or statement on the particular subject you are writing on. Once you have written a strong introductory paragraph, it is time that you move on to share your opinion with the reader. Even though it might sound strange to include words like ââ¬Å"I feelâ⬠or ââ¬Å"I thoughtâ⬠, this is actually how your professor is expecting you to write your response essay. Donââ¬â¢t hesitate to include these kinds of phrases. It is vital for a response paper to have personal opinions on the subject. There are two types of formats you can use to write a response essay: Write an introduction and thesis first, and present a summary in two or three paragraphs. After that, you follow up with the summary by writing your response (agreements and disagreements) on the subject. Finally, you end it with a thoughtful conclusion. Write an introduction and thesis as usual but instead of writing a block of summary, youââ¬â¢ll merge it with agreements and disagreements, relative to your summarized points. After that, you wrap up your essay with an introspective conclusion. If youââ¬â¢ve read all three guides in this series, you should feel very confident in producing a stellar response essay on the Rite of Passage or any other particular subject, with ease.

Marcus Cocceius Nerva, First of Rome's Good Emperors Marcus Cocceius Nerva (November 8, 30 CEââ¬âJanuary 27, 98 CE) ruled Rome as emperor from 96ââ¬â98 CE following the assassination of the much-hated Emperor Domitian. Nerva was the first of the five good emperors and was the first to adopt an heir who wasnt part of his biological family. Nerva had been a friend of the Flavians without children of his own. He built aqueducts, worked on the transport system, and built granaries to improve the food supply. Fast Facts: Marcus Cocceius Nerva Known For: Well-regarded and respected Roman emperorAlso Known As: Nerva, Nerva Caesar AugustusBorn: November 8, 30 CE in Narnia, Umbria part of the Roman EmpireParents: Marcus Cocceius Nerva and Sergia PlautillaDied: January 27, 98 CE at the Gardens of Sallust, RomePublished Works: Lyric poetryAwards and Honors:à Ornamenta Triumphalia for military serviceSpouse: NoneChildren: Marcus Ulpius Traianus, Trajan, the governor of Upper Germany (adopted)Notable Quote: ââ¬Å"I have done nothing that would prevent me laying down the imperial office and returning to private life in safety.â⬠Early Life Nerva was born November 8, 30 CE, in Narnia, Umbria, north of Rome. He came from a long line of Roman aristocrats: his great-grandfather M. Cocceius Nerva was consul in 36 CE, his grandfather was a well-known consul and friend of Emperor Tiberius, his mothers aunt was the great-granddaughter of Tiberius, and his great uncle was a negotiator for the emperor Octavian. While little is known of Nervas education or childhood, he did not become a military professional. He was, however, well known for his poetic writings. Early Career Nerva, following in his familys footsteps, pursued a political career. He became praetor-elect in 65 CE and became an advisor to Emperor Nero. He discovered and exposed a plot against Nero (the Pisonian conspiracy); his work on this issue was so significant that he received military triumphal honors (though not a member of the military). In addition, statues of his likeness were placed in the palace. Neros suicide in 68 led to a year of chaos sometimes called the Year of Four Emperors. In 69, as a result of unknown services rendered, Nerva became a consul under Emperor Vespasian. Though there are no records to support the assumption, it seems likely that Nerva continued as consul under Vespasians sons Titus and Domitian until the year 89 CE. Nerva as Emperor Domitian, as a result of conspiracies against him, had become a harsh and vengeful leader. On September 18, 96, he was assassinated in a palace conspiracy. Some historians speculate that Nerva may have been involved in the conspiracy. At the very least, it seems likely that he was aware of it. On the same day, the Senate proclaimed Nerva emperor. When appointed, Nerva was already well into his sixties and had health issues, so it was unlikely he would rule for long. In addition, he had no children, which raised questions about his successor; it may be that he was selected specifically because he would be able to handpick the next Roman emperor. The initial months of Nervas leadership focused on redressing Domitians wrongs. Statues of the former emperor were destroyed, and Nerva granted amnesty to many whom Domitian had exiled. Following tradition, he executed no senators but did, according to Cassius Dio, ââ¬Å"put to death all the slaves and freedmen who conspired against their masters.â⬠While many were satisfied with Nervas approach, the military remained loyal to Domitian, in part because of his generous pay. Members of the Praetorian Guard rebelled against Nerva, imprisoning him in the palace and demanding the release of Petronius and Parthenius, two of Domitians assassins. Nerva actually offered his own neck in exchange for those of the prisoners, but the military refused. Finally, the assassins were captured and executed, while Nerva was released. While Nerva retained power, his confidence was shaken. He spent much of the remainder of his 16-month reign attempting to stabilize the empire and ensure his own succession. Among his achievements were the dedication of a new forum, repairing roads, aqueducts, and the Colosseum, allotting land to the poor, reducing taxes imposed on Jews, instituting new laws limiting public games, and exercising greater oversight over the budget. Succession There is no record that Nerva married, and he had no biological children. His solution was to adopt a son, and he selected Marcus Ulpius Traianus, Trajan, the governor of Upper Germany. The adoption, which took place in October of 97, allowed Nerva to placate the army by selecting a military commander as his heir; at the same time, it allowed him to consolidate his leadership and take control of the provinces in the north. Trajan was the first of many adopted heirs, many of whom served Rome extremely well. In fact, Trajans own leadership is sometimes described as a golden age. Death Nerva had a stroke in January 98, and three weeks later he died. Trajan, his successor, had Nervas ashes put in the mausoleum of Augustus and asked the Senate to deify him. Legacy Nerva was the first of five emperors who oversaw the best days of the Roman Empire, as his leadership set the stage for this period of Roman glory. The other four good emperors were Trajan (98ââ¬â117), Hadrian (117ââ¬â138), Antoninus Pius (138ââ¬â161), and Marcus Aurelius (161ââ¬â180). Each of these emperors hand-selected his successor through adoption. During this period, the Roman Empire expanded to include the north of Britain as well as portions of Arabia and Mesopotamia. Roman civilization was at its height and a consistent form of government and culture expanded across the entire empire. At the same time, however, the government became increasingly centralized; while there were benefits to this approach, it also made Rome more vulnerable in the long run. Sources Dio, Cassius. Independent - Research Proposal Example This essay highlights that the major motivations in carrying out the research stems from my interest in marketing and various strategies that organisations use in ensuring success. For instance, the main strategies used by the KFC includes offering competitive prices, developing quality and diverse products, and ensuring that the products are in convenient locations where the target markets can easily access. The study will help in exploring the development strategies of the KFC and comparing it with other international restaurants such as the McDonalds. Therefore, if problems are detected in the strategies, areas of weakness will be identified and recommendations will be made. This paper declares thatà using of scientific methods is essential in providing an organised structure for making theories as well as solving problems. On the same note, it minimises bias and shows the proper steps that ought to be taken in order to reach a conclusion. In addition, a research design is the ov erall strategy that is used in integrating the research components in a logical and sound manner to fully address the problem.à The research proposal will employ a mixed methodology of both qualitative and quantitative analysis in which there will be an understanding on the existing development strategies and analyse the issue of localisation of KFC in China.à The proposal will also employ both an action and historical research design. The action research design helps in understanding the issues and coming up with intervention strategies.

Gosling & Mintzberg's The Five Minds of a Manager - Article Example To succeed, therefore, as a manger, one must have different mindsets at different times. Jonathan Glossing and Henry Mintzberg analyses these as the five minds of a manger. In doing this, they discuss the five most important roles that mangers do and the challenges they face in doing so. Managing self is the first of these; before managing a group of grown adults, one must manage himself. In doing these, such aspects of personality as grooming and punctuality among others are considered. One cannot purport to manage others while they portray signs of negligence at the workplace. Managers must therefore be very organized and orderly people. These are prerequisite to the achievement of the organizational goals and objectives. A dedicated and effectively self managed individual motivates his workforces who thereafter emulate his progress. Self discipline and restrain elevates a manager from the rest of the pack at the organization. It makes the manager authoritative and develops an air of self worth around him. It is only after ensuring this that a manager begins the process of managing the individual personality at his disposal which he does in accordance to how he manages himself (Jonathan and Henry 3). Managing organizations is the second mindset. An organization refers to a group of people brought together to achieve a common objective. A manager must weigh the task and put it in comparison to the human resource and other resources at his disposal necessary for the completion of the task. The manager is in charge of the task and he is responsible for the outcome. He must therefore ensure that he employs the best minds and competencies for the task to guarantee a positive outcome. The process of determining the best mindset requires skills and experience which a manager is required to posses. The third mindset that managers must acquire is to manage context. Organizations exist in societies; it is therefore natural that more

Carseat Safety Essay Every achievement in your childââ¬â¢s life is thrilling! First steps, first words, and even the first day of school (minus the tears). Even car seat milestones can seem exciting. The reality is, they should be looked at with a certain sense of fear, not desire. Every step in a car seat ââ¬Å"progressionâ⬠is actually a step down in your childââ¬â¢s safety. Rear facing is much, much safer than forward facing. There are many articles that discuss the reasons why your children should remain rear facing for the first full year and 20 pounds. Many of these same articles discuss that consequences of injury drop dramatically after the first year of life. However, it does not state that there are no consequences. The consequences may no longer be death from a completely severed spinal cord, but simply life-long injury, including complete paralysis. Research studies suggest that until children are at least four years of age, they are helpless in withstanding crash forces as well as adults; henceforth they should remain rear facing. In a crash, severe or deadly injuries are generally limited to the head and neck, in the case of a child being in a harnessed seat. When a child is in a forward facing seat, there is an incredible amount of stress put on the childââ¬â¢s neck, which must hold the large head back. A small childââ¬â¢s neck upholds great amounts of force in a crash. The straps hold the body back while the head is thrown forward, which can break the spinal cord. Also, the childââ¬â¢s head is at a greater risk in a forward facing seat as well. In a crash, the head is thrown outside the confines of the seat and can make dangerous contact with other passengers or intruding objects. Rear facing seats do a extraordinary job of protecting children simply because there is little to no force applied to the head, neck, and spine. When a child is in a rear facing seat, the head, neck and spine are all kept fully aligned and the child is allowed to ride down the crash while the back of the child seat absorbs the bulk of the crash force. The childââ¬â¢s head is contained within the seat, and the child is must less likely to come into contact with anything that might cause head injury.

Mr. Blackheath had promoted Lee High to vice president of finance. Lee had practically been running the firm for several years during which time sales and profit had been declining. On November 15, 1977, Mr. Blackheath announced that his son. Trafalgar Blackheath, would take over as owner and president on January 1, 1978. Trafalgar was a graduate of an MBA program and for several years had been working for a large consulting firm as a marketing specialist. In their private discussions Mr. Blackheath told his son that the problems in the family firm were marketing rather than financial, so the situation was ready made for Trafalgar. Mr. Blackheath, it seems, had been completely taken by Lee High. When Trafalgar finally arrived on December 1, 1977, and began to read various internal reports he realised Blackheath Manufacturing Co. did not have a cash budget and there didnââ¬â¢t seem to be much in the way of financial planning. Trafalgar asked Lee High about this. Leeââ¬â¢s response was that Blackheath Manufacturing Co. ran on the basis of several well-developed decision rules and budgets werenââ¬â¢t necessary because if the firm ever ran out of funds, Mr. Blackheath simply deposited à £10,000 or à £20,000 in the bank. Trafalgarââ¬â¢s response was swift and clear: ââ¬Å"My father is a millionaire, but I am not!â⬠Lee indicated he didnââ¬â¢t know much about budgeting but he would get an assistant to work up some ââ¬Å"stuff.â⬠Trafalgar decided to call his old friend Crofton Brockley. Brockley was in charge of several large budgeting projects for a consulting firm and Trafalgar knew Crofton to be a recognized expert on budgeting for small companies. Fortunately for Trafalgar, Brockley wasnââ¬â¢t busy that week and was able to travel down the next day.

De Stijl in Dutch means ââ¬Å" The Styleâ⬠, also known as neoplasticism, was a Dutch artistic movement founded in 1917. The movement was mainly about creating geometric abstract paintings. In a narrower sense, De Stijl was a term used refers to a body of work from 1917 to 1931 founded in Netherlands. De Stijl was also the name of the journal, which published by the Dutch painter, designer, writer, and critic Theo van Doesburg (1883à ââ¬â1931), propagating the groupââ¬â¢s theories.Besides him, the principal members of De Stijl group include painters Piet Mondrian (1872ââ¬â1944), Vilmos Huszar (1884ââ¬â1960), and Bart van der leck (1876-1958), and the architects Gerrit Rietveld (1888ââ¬â1964), Robert vanââ¬â¢t Hoff (1887ââ¬â1979), and J. J. P. Oud (1890ââ¬â1963). The basic artistic philosophy of the groupââ¬â¢s work was known as neoplasticism ââ¬â ââ¬Å"the new plastic art (or Nieuwe Beelding in Dutch). â⬠In general, De Stijl used only straight horizontal and vertical lines and rectangular forms to proposed both in architecture and painring , the ultimate simplicity and abstraction. For example, the Red and Blue Chair designed by Gerrit Rietveld in 1917. They used limited colors like red, yellow, and blue as their formal vocabulary. And they had three primary values, black, white, and grey. Their works used opposition to avoid symmetry and attained aesthetic balance. This element of the movement embodies the second meaning of stijl: a post, jamb or supportâ⬠. It was the best example of the constructive crossing joints, most commonly seen in carpentry. De Stijl was influenced by Cubist painting as well as by the mysticism and the ideas about ââ¬Å"idealâ⬠geometric forms in the neoplatonic philosophy of mathematician M. H. J. Schoenmaekers. This movement also influenced the Bauhaus style and the international style of architecture as well as clothing and interior design. However, different from Bauhaus, D e Stijl didnââ¬â¢t follow the general guidelines of an ââ¬Å"ismâ⬠(Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism), nor did it held the principles of art schools like the Bauhaus. It was a collection of artworks and a joint enterprise. De Stijl completely rejected to use any concrete element. They advocated the use of pure geometric abstraction to express the pure spirit. They thought only to put aside specific description and details to avoid the individuality and specificity of an artwork, and then art could obtain the common human sense.

Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 17, 1706. He was the tenth son of soap maker, Josiah Franklin. Benjamin's mother was Abiah Folger, the second wife of Josiah. In all, Josiah would father 17 children. Josiah intended for Benjamin to enter into the clergy. However, Josiah could only afford to send his son to school for one year and clergymen needed years of schooling. Critics Claim Obama Doubled the National Debt A widely circulated email that began making the rounds in 2009 indirectly claims President Barack Obama tried to double the national debt in one year, presumably in his first budget proposal after taking office. The email invokes the name of Obamas predecessor, former President George W. Bush, in trying to make its point about the Democratic president and the growing national debt. Lets take a look at the email: If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt - which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate - in one year, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved? The email concludes: So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Cant think of anything? Dont worry. Hes done all this in 6 months-so youll have three years and six months to come up with an answer! Doubling Down on the National Debt? Is there any truth to the claim Obama proposed to double the national debt in one year? Hardly. Even if Obama went on the most lavish spending spree imaginable, it would have been pretty difficult to double what had been the total publicly held debt, or national debt, of more than $6.3 trillion in January of 2009. It just didnt happen. What about the second question? Did Obama propose to double the national debt within 10 years? According to nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projections, Obamas first budget proposal was, in fact, expected to double the countrys publicly held debt over the course of a decade. Perhaps this is the source of confusion in the chain email. The CBO projected that Obamas proposed budget would increase the national debt from $7.5 trillion - about 53 percent of the nations Gross Domestic Product - at the end of 2009 to $20.3 trillion - or 90 percent of the GDP - by the end of 2020. The publicly held debt, also called the national debt, includes all monies owed by the United States government to persons and institutions outside the government. National Debt Nearly Doubled Under Bush If youre looking for other presidents who nearly doubled the national debt, perhaps Mr. Bush is also a culprit. According to the Treasury, the publicly held debt was $3.3 trillion when he took office in 2001, and more than $6.3 trillion when he left office in 2009. Thats an increase of nearly 91 percent. CBO Projects Debt to Almost Double by 2048 In June 2018, the CBO projected that without major changes in government spending, the national debt will nearly double as a share of the economy over the next 30 years. Currently (2018) equivalent to 78 percent of the GDP, the GBO projects it will hit 100 percent of GDP by 2030 and 152 percent by 2048. At this point, the debt as a share of the GDP would exceed the records set during World War II. While government spending on discretionary or optional programs is expected to remain steady or even decrease, the growth in the debt will continue to be driven by health care costs and increased spending on entitlement spending, like Medicare and Social Security as ever-more people reach retirement age. In addition, the CBO projects that President Trumpââ¬â¢s tax cuts will add to the debt, especially if Congress makes them permanent. The tax cuts, currently in effect for 10 years, are expected to reduce the governmentââ¬â¢s revenue by $1.8 trillion through 2028, with even greater reductions in revenue if the tax cuts are made permanent. Large and growing federal debt over the coming decades would hurt the economy and constrain future budget policy, reported the CBO. The amount of debt that is projected under the extended baseline would reduce national saving and income in the long term; increase the governments interest costs, putting more pressure on the rest of the budget; limit lawmakers ability to respond to unforeseen events; and increase the likelihood of a fiscal crisis. Brand Image and Corporate Identity - Essay Example The two elements, brand name, and corporate identity must be addressed for the success of the firm. A brand name offers a distinction between a companyââ¬â¢s product and other substitutes in the market. The main aim of the brand name is to enable customers to distinguish a particular product from a pool of substitutes. An effective marketing plan includes a brand name that the organization holds onto to enhance better response from customers. Marketing executives create unique brand names that are attractive to the customers and also create a clear distinction with other products such that customers can easily memorize and identify the brand. A successful brand name must be relevant, coherent, differentiated and be able to create a reputation. One of the firms that have a successful brand name is The Coca-Cola Company. Its brand name, Coca-Cola, has stood out in the face of stiff competition. The brand name is common to many soft drink buyers around the globe. The company uses its one brand name strategy to penetrate new markets and also maintain its existing market share (Lamb, Hair & McDaniel 2010). The brand, Coca-Cola, is known in virtually every household and thus cannot be confused with any other brand. A Brand name is made to stick into the target market and create a long-lasting loyalty to the brand despite other shortcomings of the firm (Berens, Riel & Bruggen 2005). Every product of a firm contains the brand name that acts as the marketing cornerstone. As such, marketers must ensure that the brand name is capable of attracting the target audience and also promote it aggressively so that it reigns in purchasing decisions made in the target market. Moreover, a brand name enhances the investorsââ¬â¢ perception of the products of the firm and thus attracts investors, shareholders, and creditors. The corporate identity of a firm represents the general or the overall way.

Cost of Production - Larson & Larson Company - Assignment Example 8660/12800 = ?0.68/unit For T, 50 labour hours @ ?12 + ?1800 for 2,400 Rate per unit = ?2400/2400 = ?1/unit Part b ABC system would be used if the other costs such as run and inspection are actually considered to obtain the true value of the project costs. With the weighted percentages, it can be possible to determine the product value considering each part of the process. In addition to the works on OAR, we calculate according the apportionment of the other expenses such that we will have the calculation that includes all the aspects for ABC as follows: For R, 68 x ? 12 apportioned appropriately in the ratio 3:4:3 then calculated for one unit by dividing by 560, the value is then added to other cost due to material and direct labour hours. = ?1.46/unit The total unit cost of R being ?2.69/ unit ?2.69/ unit1.46/ unit = ?3.15/unit For S, = 50 x ? 12 in the ratio 3:4:3 and calculated for one unit by dividing by 12,800 = 600/12800 = ?0.05/unit Total unit cost being 0.68 + 0.05 = ?0.73/u nit For T, would similarly be obtained as 58 x ?12/600 + ?1/unit =?2.26/unit Part c ABC as a method or accpunting model as developed inorder to solve problems related to accounting that has actually evolved over time due to the change in technology as well operations within the industries (Warren, Reeve & Fess 2005). It is clear that overhead costs have been increasing in companies to the point that it may be extremely difficult to use the direct methods which only emphasized on resources as well as the absorbed costs of the out. This assumed at a great expense, the impact of operations and the many intermediaries involved which comprise of the majority of the overhead costs. ABC therefore is the only practical remedy to the inefficiencies of the traditional accounting methods. At the core of ABC there exist very important principles and arguments which contribute to differentiating it from other accounting methods. ABC holds that the cost objects will consume the activities contrar y to the principle of other traditional accounting methods which argue that cost objects may only consume the resources (Naidu, Babu & Rajendra 2006). In normal operations, the costs actually will end utilizing the activities in the production line which actually depend on the resources. This aspect makes ABC more realistic and effective in determine the unit cost of production. Whereas other traditional methods base on volume allocation of the production resources, ABC considers the drivers at each level and their effect on production to determine the allocation. The drivers considered include activity drivers as well as the activity drivers which check every other production element and its cause effect relationship to the output. Further difference and principle of ABC comes from the fact that the traditional accounting are developed on the basis of structures while ABC actually depends on the process itself and therefore takes care of the various that may occur in the process. A BC begins from the process as it moves upwards to assess the amount of resources utilized and that might be required.
